Description

Turmeric is a medicinal as well as a culinary herb and has been used for centuries in both ways. It is particularly helpful for the digestive system, so when it is used in cooking, you have the added benefit that it aids digestion.* Black pepper has been added because it has been found that black pepper greatly improves the absorption of Turmeric.

Curcumin

The active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin, which has been the subject of numerous animal studies involving the production of bile and the normal, healthy functioning of the liver.*

Curcumin also has antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory  properties.*

Curcumin can activate the Nrf2 pathway, which  is the system the body turns on when it wants to make its “in-house antioxidants.” Nutrients known to activate Nrf2 include: sulforaphane from broccoli seed extract; curcumin from the turmeric plant; and carotenoids such as zeaxanthin and lutein.

As a topical skin remedy, turmeric’s antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties aid insect bites, fungal infections of the skin, minor wounds, and skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.*

Traditional Medicine

In traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medical systems, as well as more modern herbal practices, turmeric has been used as a digestive and liver aid, an arthritic pain reliever, and a regulator of menstruation.*
