The Amino Acid, Cysteine
The amino acid, cysteine, is also necessary for the formation and healing of the skin. (Hair and skin are made up of 10% to 14% cysteine.) Cysteine is a precursor to the amino acid, glutathione. These two amino acids have the ability to minimize oxidative stress and its effects.*
Exercise and Free Radicals
Any condition of the body resulting in a sudden or chronic over-consumption of oxygen may lead to free radical creation, for example:
- Exercise, particularly if intense, extended or eccentric-based
- Inflammation, including that of tissue damage resulting from exercise
