Description
Functioning as an antioxidant, N-Acetyl Cysteine is a form of the amino acid L-Cysteine and is a powerful aid to the body in protecting against the oxidative stress of exercise, radiation and pollution. It helps to slow down the aging process, deactivate free radicals, neutralize toxins, and prevent cellular change.*
The Amino Acid, Cysteine
The amino acid, cysteine, is also necessary for the formation and healing of the skin. (Hair and skin are made up of 10% to 14% cysteine.) Cysteine is a precursor to the amino acid, glutathione. These two amino acids have the ability to minimize oxidative stress and its effects.*
Exercise and Free Radicals
Any condition of the body resulting in a sudden or chronic over-consumption of oxygen may lead to free radical creation, for example:
- Exercise, particularly if intense, extended or eccentric-based
- Inflammation, including that of tissue damage resulting from exercise
- Various types of cardiovascular disease
One of the main functions of N-Acetyl Cysteine is to help deactivate free radicals.
