Acne is a skin disorder that is caused by wrong habits, such as eating at irregular hours, excess starches, improper diet, and fatty foods. It leads to clogged pores and outbreaks of small cysts called pimples. It usually occurs on the face, chest, neck, shoulders, and back.

There are several home remedies for acne that you can try. You can look in your kitchen for the ingredients. Below are some of the home remedies that you can use the next time acne breaks out.

Chamomile tea

Chamomile tea is good for pimples caused by acne. Just brew the tea and dab a cotton ball in it. Wipe it on the face two times each day.


Oatmeal can also be used to battle acne. Prepare a bowl of oatmeal as if you’re going to eat it. Then add a quarter cup of honey and stir. Let it cool. Then place this onto the face just like a mud pack. Avoid getting the oatmeal mixture into the eyes. Leave it on for 20 minutes and then wash it off. This will help improve an acne condition.

Another oatmeal home remedy for acne is to add peppermint and plain old black tea into the oatmeal. First put teabags of peppermint tea and black tea in water and bring it to a boil. Then add a tablespoon of Epsom salts. Then add the oatmeal and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Place the mixture on the face and leave it on for around half an hour.

Turmeric and Mint

Make juice out of fresh mint leaves and mix it with turmeric powder. Apply to the face on the affected area and leave it for 15 minutes before washing it off.


Sandalwood powder is commonly used as an acne home remedy in India. You mix a teaspoon of the sandalwood powder with a teaspoon of turmeric powder and make a paste. Put it on the acne area, which will help clear up the blemishes.

Orange Peel

Orange peel is another common item found in the kitchen that can be used as a home remedy for acne. Finely grate an orange peel and mix it with water. Wash the face with this solution.


Fresh lemon juice is said to be effective in treating acne. Before bed, take half of a lemon and rub it all over the face or area where there’s acne. It may sting a bit. Do this for up to a week until pimples disappear.
