Why Do We Need a B2 Supplement?

Vitamin B2, also called riboflavin, is continuously excreted in the urine of healthy individuals, making deficiency relatively common when dietary intake is insufficient. However, vitamin B2 (riboflavin) deficiency is always accompanied by deficiency of other vitamins, especially other B Vitamins. Nutritional pioneer Adele Davis recommended taking similar amounts of B2 and B6, for example.

A deficiency of riboflavin (Vitamin B2) can be primary, caused by poor vitamin sources in one’s daily diet, or it may result from poor absorption in the intestines, the body’s inability to use the vitamin, or increased excretion of the vitamin from the body.

As food processing depletes many naturally occurring nutrients, supplementation is important to insure proper intake of this vitamin, along with the other B Vitamins.

Product Benefits:

Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) is a nutrient necessary to support the functioning of the adrenal glands, the nervous system, and the eyes.  It is also essential for certain metabolic processes, including converting food into energy.

There are also studies linking riboflavin to the abatement of migraine headaches.

What are B-Complex Vitamins?

There are eight major B-Vitamins and a few minor ones. As a group, they are often referred to as B-complex vitamins, since they work together, helping the body convert carbohydrates into fuel (glucose),and this in turn is used to produce energy. In this way, they help you to metabolize fats and proteins. B-vitamins also promote healthy skin, hair, eyes, and liver and help the workings of the nervous system.

The vitamins that make up the B complex are water soluble, meaning the body does not store excess amounts, but simply excretes any extra in the urine. (The exception is Vitamin B12, which is stored in the liver.) This means you need a continuous supply of the B vitamins from the diet, but our modern diets do not provide an abundance of B vitamins.
