Hypermiling on a highway commute

driving home from NKU on I-471 to 71 75 South via Cincinnati. Driving absurdly slowly (50 MPH) and hypermiling.

Looking backwards and to the left (to see all the tailgaters and speeders LOL).

Forwards view coming soon.

I got 49.8 mpg in a Toyota Echo (EPA: 29 37) on that trip and I regularly average in the high 40’s or low 50’s when I gas up.

I can never make myself save gas on highway. On some small country roads or in the city – no problem, I’ll drive slowly and steadily to get the highest milage, but once I’m on a highway I just can’t go that slow..

We could also use the same math and the same truths to make the point that lowering the speed limit and getting people from 65 mph down to 55 is not nearly as important as enforcing it and getting the people who are doing 75 down to 65 :-)
